For Students: 

House Communities: Diversity starts at home, in your house communities. Get to know your fellow students through the creative, social and fun programming sponsored by each house. 

Office of Pluralism and Leadership (OPAL): In addition to serving as the home for student academic and socio-cultural advising and outreach, OPAL offers leadership development, dialogue and community building, and cultural programming -- all terrific ways to learn about cross-cultural difference and build your skills in supporting an inclusive community. Get started on OPAL's wesbite to learn more. 

The Tucker Center, Dartmouth's home for religous life, offers great programming for exploring difference in a respectful way. Check out their Interfaith Engagement program, for example, which seeks to build community across religious differences.

Dartmouth Center for Service offers opportunities to engage across difference through service learning in our local community and abroad. 

The Rockfeller Center: Cross-cultural understanding and communication are foundational aspects of the Rockefeller Center's  Leadership programs. Dartmouth Leadership Attitudes & Behaviors Program (D-LAB) engages first-year students in exploration of the forces that shape your values, and how you can effectively engage them in the Dartmouth Community. Upperclass students can continue to hone their cross-cultural understanding and leadership skills through progressively more challenging opportunities: Management & Leadership DevelopmentGlobal Leadership Program, and Rocky Leadership Fellows.

Dickey Center for International Understanding: At the Dickey Center there are lots of ways to engage with difference and learn about community building across it. Student organizationscourses, and engagement with global leaders building community around the world are just a few ways to get involved. 

The Collis Center for Student Involvement is the home to more than 180 student organizations. Get to know your classmates through shared interests, be it chess, activism or an appreciation for diffent cuisines. The Collis Center also supports the many Dartmouth traditions including the Homecoming Bonfire, Winter Carnival and Family Weekends that are expressions of Dartmouth's community. 

Be the change: Dartmouth students are our best community advocates. Whether it is the promotion of sexual respectprevention of violence, or supporting diversity through inclusion by learning to speak up against bias and harrassment, there are lots of opportunities to get the training you need to be a force for positive change.

For Faculty:

Engage with the student community: All faculty are assigned an affiliation with one of the six house communities. This is a great opportunity to connect with students outside of classes and informally where they gather. Learn what concerns them, offer your perspective on living and working at Dartmouth and come to know better this wonderful, diverse group of learners that are Dartmouth students. 

Think critically about what you teach, how you teach and how it might be received. The Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning offers a resource page on disrupting implicit bias in the classroom, as well as opportunities to help you better teach the students coming to Dartmouth today. Check out their schedule of events. 

Take advantage of the professional development opportunities supported by the Office of the Provost. Offered by the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, your Dartmouth affiliation gives you free access to their many online resources, which address critical inclusive community-building activities like mentorship. NCFDD also offers resources to help you finish writing your book, write a new grant, or plan out the next phase of your career. By making you a stronger, more secure scholar, you will be better positioned to support others. 

Join one of the Employee Resource Networks. These are affinity groups comprised of faculty, staff, families and Upper Valley community members, that aim to support member's personal, professional and social development. 

Build new networks with diverse communities of scholars. Attending a regional or national conference for your field? Consider representing Dartmouth at gatherings or sessions devoted to minority scholars. Building your network enhances Dartmouth's network. 

Prepare yourself for the next faculty search by taking an online unconscious bias training geared for recruitment. Familiarize yourself with other resources for search committees. 

Ensure that the data Dartmouth collects on the diversity of the faculty is accurate. Self-identification is the College's most reliable information. You can submit your information by answering the Self-Identification Questions through Dartmouth's secure online system.

For Staff: 

Join Employee Resource Networks. The affinity groups bring together faculty, staff, their families and Upper Valley community members. The groups established on campus are the Black Caucus, Native American Council, Latinx Hispanic Council, LGBT network, International Employee Network, Veterans Network, Asian Pacific Islander Caucus and EmpowHER, a network for women of color.

Ensure that the data Dartmouth's collects on diversity represents reality: Learn about the Self-Identification Questions from which the College draws its data and submit your information and submit your information.

Participate in implicit bias training and other professional development opportunities that build inclusive excellence through the Office of Human Resources. Check out their current offerings

Support the staff you supervise to engage in professional development and diversity trainings. Remind them at check-ins and annual reviews of the resources available to them, and help them find the time in their work schedules to participate. 

Build inclusivity and teamwork by having your office or group particpate a dedicated workshop on diversity through the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity,  or participate in ropes course teamwork session sponsored by the Dartmouth Outdoor Programs Office. 

Join fellow community members at the annual community picnic at the start of fall term. 

Participate in the United Way's Day of Service, announced each fall in support of the United Way campaign, or volunteer with one of the organizations supported by Granite United Way, and get to know your neighbors in the Upper Valley.
