To retain an excellent and diverse staff, Dartmouth will enhance professional development opportunities. 

Institutional Equity and Diversity/Chief Human Resources Officer

The office of Human Resources, in concert with campus partners, offers a variety of professional development opportunities to Dartmouth staff to enhance their skills as employees and as members of an inclusive community. Information on all of the department's training programs can be found on the Human Resources Training and Professional Development website. Workshops that focus particularly on working on a diverse campus include implicit bias, ADA compliance and a variety of communication and customer service workshops that deal with communicating across difference and serving the needs of a diverse community.

Two new professional development programs for Dartmouth staff focus on preparing new managers and divisional coordinators with inclusive practices, and cultivating collaborative and inclusive leaders. 


DartSmart is a training program to develop the skills needed to effectively manage, retain, and build an engaged workforce. Participants have an opportunity to explore issues that challenge and support an inclusive practice when leading Dartmouth's 21st century workforce. This program is offered to divisional coordinators and new managers to ensure that all Dartmouth employees who supervise others benefit from the training.

Dartmouth LEADS

Dartmouth LEADS is a leadership development program for high-potential and high-performance individuals who demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development. Applicants are nominated by their supervisor or a divisional leader in consultation with the nominees supervisor. More information on Dartmouth LEADS.
