Work to retain key faculty
To increase faculty diversity, school deans are asked to work with the Office of the Provost to retain key faculty, both preemptively in the context of excellent performance in research, teaching and service, and in response to recruitment by peer institutions.
School deans deploy a variety of strategies to retain successful faculty, including but not limited to: additional resources for retention; professional development and advancement opportunities; regular check-ins, particularly with junior faculty; and support for social activities and community building.
While challenges remain, particularly for faculty partner career support, school deans are coordinating their efforts, partnering with local area employers, and developing multiple approaches to enhance retention. This task is marked complete; however the work is ongoing. Success is measured with annual retention rates, and data from exit and stay interviews is used to update retention strategies.
